RUN AS ONE is organized in the framework of the ALPHAMEGA “Child, Nutrition & Health” Corporate Social Responsibility program. The aim of the program is to promote the importance of healthy eating habits and regular exercise from childhood. Through the actions of the program, children between 9-12 years old are given the opportunity to visit members of the Cyprus Dietetic and Nutrition Association in order to obtain a free personalized nutrition plan. The goal of the program is to prevent childhood obesity and promote systematic nutrition education.
The “Child, Nutrition and Health” program was successfully implemented during the school years 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and is now in its eighth year. All net proceeds from RUN AS ONE go to the program.
Each year, it is estimated that more than 2,000 children are given the opportunity to visit one of the approved members of the Association for free. Further, children are granted free follow-up appointments for an entire month, in order to track their progress.
Other actions of the program:
The annual cycling route “CYCLING FOR A EURO” made its third comeback and supported ALPHAMEGA’s program “CHILD, NUTRITION & HEALTH” and its values which are integral to the program.
The initiative “CYCLING FOR A EURO” returned for second consecutive year and was warmly embraced by the public.
ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets in a strategic collaboration with Charalambides Christis organized “CYCLING FOR A EURO”, through which Marina Theodorou and her team cycled across Cyprus to promote healthy eating habits and exercise.
Through another collaboration, this time with Cyprus Sports Organization CSO, ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets launched an online exercising platform, allowing people from all walks of life to exercise and remain fit throughout the pandemic. ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets continue to work for the common good, under all circumstances.
The very first VIRTUAL RUN AS ONE was organized in 2020, because of the pandemic. VIRTUAL RUN AS ONE 2020 gave the opportunity to runners to participate from every part of Cyprus and abroad.
ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets and HENKEL supported children and education by organizing a competition, through which they offered 25 scholarships for foreign language classes by EUROGNOSI. The competition’s prizes allowed children to expand their knowledge and gain a better understanding of the world and different cultures.
“Dive into my plate and find out!”, a book written by dietician – clinical nutritionist Christina Papadopoulou Fesa and sponsored by ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets was released in 2019. The book includes healthy recipes for dishes targeting a vast group of food lovers. All recipes are presented with a creative touch and fanciful illustrations. Part of the π from the book’s sales was provided to support “Child, Nutrition & Health” program.
ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets over the past years offered free, healthy breakfast in primary schools and informed children about the benefits of a healthy diet.
In addition, the Hypermarkets were the Grand Sponsor of All Stars Basketball Camp which gave the opportunity to kids to learn basketball secrets from professional players, and also the benefits of healthy eating.
ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets continued to promote sports and increase awareness as per the benefits of exercising, while organizing Aronas MTB Race – in collaboration with Cyprus Cycling Federation.
During the race, children had the opportunity to enjoy, for two whole days, fun activities and bike stunt shows at ALPHAMEGA Latsia.
With the support of the ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets, the theater performance “Nutrition” was presented in 35 primary schools throughout Cyprus, as well as the performance “The Mangas and the Madam Nutrition” at several theatres in Cyprus.
Through the plays, kids learnt about the benefits of proper nutrition in a fun way.
Nutrition workshops for kids were organized by ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets. Little chefs put on their hats, prepared healthy dishes under the direction of A’ Chef Nikolas Constantinou and discovered the fun part of healthy eating. President of the Cyprus Dietetic & Nutrition Association, Dr. Eleni Andreou, explained to children the nutritional value of the ingredients used for each recipe.
ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets organized Aronas MTB Race in collaboration with Cyprus Cycling Federation, in order to promote exercise and health.
Proceeds from sales of the kitchen journal “Kitchen by Akis Petretzikis” were made available for the purposes of the “Child, Nutrition & Health” program.
“Fruit Elections” was an action which invited children to vote for their favorite fruit. Through this action, ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets underlined the nutritional value of fruits and the importance of their regular consumption. The elections were taking place on a weekly basis, for a specific period of time, at the grocery departments of the Hypermarkets. Each month’s leading fruit celebrated its victory by offering children lots of fruit gifts.
“Fruit Elections” were carried out in collaboration with the Cyprus Dietetic & Nutrition Association, with the aim of informing children about the nutritional value of fruits.
